Therefore we do not lose heart.
Though outwardly we are wasting away,
yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

Jeremiah, The Weeping Prophet

The Word of the Lord comes to Jeremiah sending him to proclaim through out Jerusalem their precarious state and the solution to the heaviness hanging over their heads. But, their ears are dull of hearing and they refuse to return unto their God. The Lord shares with Jeremiah that if he can find but one through out the entire city who deals honestly and seeks the truth, He will forgive the city. How heavy is Jeremiah's heart when after bringing warning to his own people he realizes there is no hope that this stiff necked people will repent and turn back. Then Jeremiah utters these words of sadness...

Jeremiah 8:18 NIV
O my Comforter in sorrow
my heart is faint within me.
Jeremiah 8:20 NIV
"The harvest is past,
the summer has ended,
and we are not saved."
As Christians in our time, look about at the harbingers of disaster unfolding daily, we too take on the lament of Jeremiah and our hearts are filled with anguish just as his was...We continue to hold forth an eternal hope in a time of hopelessness, to our dying world, while many simply turn their back on the message and walk away...
